With the game having different biomes with their own challenges and advantages, there could be room for having specific perks/traits that are unlocked for the biome after gaining experience or "mastery" in said biome. Maybe set it as "research" for the queen. These traits and perks may even tailor to specifc races that excel in the biomes.
