I posted this on the Discord to positive reception, and someone suggested I put it here.
A situation I run into every game is that my villagers end up idling waiting on the output from another building which is sitting in that building's storage. For example, my lumber mill's inventory is full of planks because the workers are making more while builders sit around doing nothing waiting for them to bring them to storage. Thus I end up using the "deliver now" button and swapping workers way more than I would ideally. This problem gets exacerbated with the "increased inventory" citadel upgrade, making it feel more like a drawback than an upgrade.
So my suggestion: either
1. Allow villagers waiting on output (e.g. builders, idle workers) to haul needed items from the output of other buildings to their inventories
2. Allow builders/unemployed workers to serve as haulers (bringing output to storage or even to other buildings) when they're not busy with other tasks
3. Create a way for us to designate a manual "hauler" role, either overall or per-building. E.g. you can set one of a building's workers to "prioritize hauling" so he will always haul inputs/outputs as needed while the other workers work
Someone else in discord suggested making this smart - As in, workers in buildings will understand if there is an immediate demand for the resource they are producing and deliver the appropriate amount accordingly.

Just a small update here - some tiem ago, we added the option for workers to take resources directly from other buildings' internal stroages. For now it doesn't work for builders, but that might change in the future.

I think this is similar suggestion to this one: feedback.eremitegames.com/b/suggestions-feature-requests/allow-idle-builders-to-haul-resources/

some dedicated haulers would make sense. It's common in several games like this: basically improve efficiency.

I really like some of these suggestions. Idle workers waiting on goods going to get them personally is really cool. I would even be cool with a new building like "Hauler Camp" that you could put workers in and they would run around putting items to and from storages to where they are needed.

Really great idea! For me, increased inventory feels as downgrade, too. I really dislike this "upgrade", cause it just makes for me either more busywork, waiting till inventory is full or just have shortages which can only be solved by micromanagment where it serves no real gameplay purpose...
