I strongly dislike the new UI. It has ridiculously high contrast, bad readability, is very gloomy, and looks like it was designed for a gritty space-faring sci-fi game. All sharp angles, squares and circles and absolutely zero organic feel from a game that's based on surviving in a forest. Basically looks like a high-contrast dark-mode for late-night redditing.
The game lost a huge part of its identity and charm with the removal of the old UI. The feel of parchment, rusticness and life will sorely be missed. I'd really love to see it back. Hope you'll allow us to toggle it back.

In the latest Rationing Update, we improved the UI according to the feedback we gathered: eremitegames.com/rationing-update/
While this is not what the suggestions title says directly, I believe we managed to meet halfway. We shared more insights and previews in the Update Notes. I hope you like it!

This comment is from after the hotfix: I felt really bad commenting about the UI because it's clear a lot of thought went to the usability and design of the new one. Just like the devs are doing, working on it incementally and with players is probably the right choice. There might be some people who quite prefer the new UI as well, though I'd personally save it for the "Against The Meteor Rain" Sci-Fi spinoff about settling a new hostile planet. For me personally, I can play one game max with the new UI as my eyes start to hurt, which is weird because I usually much prefer dark themes with programs. I guess it's more about balance and lower contrast.
- What would halp the readability most would be having the whole building in the construction options view, not just a zoomed in part of it.
- I also noticed that several things didn't mesh up well with increased UI sizes (as is the case with almost all games with UI scaling) and it caused some buttons to fall below the bottom of the screen, or made the buttons at the top right hide behind storm effects and thus unclickable.
- The high brightness of effects from revealing a cornerstone or new buildings were really cool, but also quite painful to the eye when it was accustomed to the dark theme.

I completely agree. The main problem of the new design is that it is difficult to read. character icons look extremely uncomfortable, it is difficult to understand who is free, who is homeless. and of course the threat level of the forest looks extremely ridiculous
+1 New UI is horrible. Give old back pls.

IMHO THE NEW UI is lifeless--i feel like im playing a different game. I really really really think yall should rethink this. This UI makes a near perfect game ugly and hollow. yall autotuned a perfectly in key vocal melody. please re think this bring this game back to life the old UI stood out this is sadge

I also very strongly dislike the new UI. Up to this point I've very much enjoyed playing this game for very long sessions at a time due to the continually calming sound of the rain, charming aesthetic, and pleasure of managing a village. With the new UI one of my eyes starts to hurt within minutes. This is the reason I stopped playing Stellaris in that its UI has not kept up with hardware, and there's a blurry effect with all of the text.
I've tried resizing the AtS UI to try to get the edges of UI objects to be resolution-matched, but nothing seems to work. I'm running it on 2560x1440@144Hz, and nothing I try can get the text and object edges to be as crisp as those on, for example, the windows desktop or even the text that I'm typing in this comment box.
I know you've spent a huge amount of time developing the new UI, and I hate to be critical of it as this game has hooked me more than any other in quite awhile, but I don't know how much longer I can play it until this gets fixed or there's an option to use the old UI as I'm not sure if I can deal with the eye strain or whatever is happening. I also agree with the original post in that it really has lost something aesthetically with the new UI.
I really hope we can find a resolution to this! (literally and figuratively)
Again, thanks for such a marvelous, genre-blending, revolutionary new game!
I agree, this new UI isn't nearly as nice as the old one. Please bring the old one back or at least make it an option.
