Quite often it gets annoying to have to manually switch e.g. from one cloth production material to another - I think for most of recepies you could just allow option to 'automatically use what is available' to enable and just let people limit usages as in current system when they decide to. It could be even that e.g. you set up insects as primary source and it uses insects when they are available and if not, it will pick another item that you have available, if the option is enabled.
